I had my first traditional myomectomy in Septmeber 2004. In February of 2006 I was told I had a fibroids again. I had just recently gotten married so my husband and I decided we would keep trying to get pregnant and hold off on surgery. The pain from the fibroids got so bad that in July I went back to Dr. Smirz to have the fibroids out again. She referred me to Dr Bonaventura because I wanted to get pregnant and he was using the DaVinci procedure for the removal of fibroids. I had the DaVinci myomectomy in September 2006, the procedure was so much less painful than the first surgery. I felt better after about 5 days, and returned to a normal life after that. I am a Paramedic and was only off work for 2 weeks as opposed to 4 weeks the first time. I was amazed that I was able to return to full duty after such a short time. I still wanted a baby so Dr. Bonaventura started me on fertility medications 2 weeks after my surgery. After one round of shots I found out that I was pregnant. I was watched closely while pregnant and had a successful C-section on June 13, 2007. While I was pregnant I had another fibroid growing. Dr.Bonaventura attended my delivery to take the tumor out, but was unable to because it was not safe for me. I returned to Dr.Bonaventura in January of 2008 to have the DaVinci myomectomy done for a second time. The second time around was slightly more painful because of the size of the fibroid. I was still able to return to full duty in 2 weeks again. This time, my husband and I are trying for a second baby without the help of fertility medications. But I know if I have a return of the fibroids Dr. Bonaventura will be taking them out with the DaVinci procedure.
