Local Reproductive Endocrinologist Performs 200th Procedure with Innovative Robotic Technology
September 17, 2009 – Indianapolis, IN – A local reproductive endocrinologist who was the first surgeon to conduct a gynecological myomectomy procedure using the da Vinci® Surgical System in the state three years ago has now performed his 200th procedure. Dr. Leo Bonaventura of Bonaventura Reproductive Medicine is one of only three physicians in the field of gynecology to reach this incredible milestone. Dr. Bonaventura uses the da Vinci® Surgical System to perform a number of gynecological surgeries, including myomectomy and hysterectomy procedures, among others.
The da Vinci® Surgical System integrates 3D HD endoscopy and state-of-the-art robotic technology to virtually extend a surgeon’s eyes and hands into the surgical field. Using the da Vinci® Surgical System, Dr. Bonaventura operates while seated at a console viewing a 3D image of the surgical field. The system seamlessly translates his hand, wrist and finger movements into precise, real-time movements of surgical instruments inside the patient.
